Handle Your Own Upgrades with Glenfield Model A Parts
Dec 5th 2025
Remember the Glenfield line of rifles that used to be made by Marlin way back when? Models like the Glenfield Model 60 were budget-friendly rifles that were no-frills, reliable shooters that hunters around the country trusted for their performance.
Well, Ruger bought Marlin in 2020 and has resuscitated the Glenfield line, notably in the new Glenfield Model A rifle, which is basically a reimagining of the legendary Ruger American Rifle, one of the best-selling centerfire platforms of the last ten years.
Here’s what you should know about this revival of the Glenfield line by Ruger, as well as how you can make it better with some choice Glenfield Model A parts from Anarchy Outdoors.
What the Glenfield Model A Rifle Does Well
Like the Glenfields of old, the new Glenfield Model A offers no-frills performance with a few niceties baked-in.
Built around the Ruger American Rifle, which should be obvious from one look at the stock) the Glenfield Model A rifle offers simple performance, solid accuracy and reliability, and downright durability, making it an excellent competition or hunting rifle, especially on the low end of the budget.
With that said, there are quite a few things about the new Glenfield Model A that are designed to improve overall performance.
Let’s start with the action; it uses a super-strong-yet-smooth 3-lug bolt with a 70-degree throw, with a smooth bolt knob that is easy, comfortable, and ergonomic to cycle. A bladed, adjustable trigger communicates with the action; shooters have overwhelmingly commented on the crispness of the Ruger American’s trigger, so that is a winner, too.
The Glenfield Model A rifle’s action is mated to a lightweight yet strong polymer stock with a splattered moss green finish; this stock, which offers superior performance to wooden stocks on the grounds of consistency and low maintenance, also offers a finish that improves concealment while offering a pleasant tactile feel that is not slippery, but not too sharp, either.
Two other aspects of the Ruger Glenfield Model A rifle that are very attractive are that it has a threaded barrel and a pre-installed Picatinny scope base. The threaded barrel makes it easier to install muzzle devices, which we will investigate below, and the scope base offers some value too.
As for the latter consideration, it’s one thing for a rifle to come drilled and tapped, and another for it to have a section of rail pre-installed, and ready for the addition of optics.
Like the Ruger American, the Glenfield Model A is available in several chamberings, in this case, .243 Winchester, .270 Winchester, .308 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, and a few newer cartridges, 6.5 Creedmoor, .350 Legend, and .450 Bushmaster.
With so many chamberings available, there are Glenfield Model A rifles that are suitable for long-range big game hunting, as well as, in the case of the .350 Legend, suitable for hunting in states that only allow straight-walled cartridges.
At the end of the day, the new Glenfield Model A is an excellent rifle, and one that is highly budget friendly. But all the same, there are some things you can do to make it better. Here are some of the top upgrades from our collection, focused on Glenfield Model A parts.
Glenfield Model A Parts That Make Great Upgrades
Take a closer look through our collection of Glenfield Model A parts and see if any of these can help you make some upgrades to your new rifle. You might like what you find.
- Scope bases: Yes, the Glenfield Model A rifle comes with a pre-installed Picatinny rail over the receiver, as we indicated. But there is one thing about our scope bases that make them better than Ruger’s stock scope bases: ours come with a bubble level. That way you can see, at a glance, if your rifle is on a cant, avoiding which issue is one of the most critical aspects to accuracy when shooting at long ranges. Plus, since the Glenfield rifle already has a scope base pre-installed, removing and replacing is only that much easier.

- Bolt knobs: There’s nothing inherently bad about the bolt knob that comes with your Glenfield rifle, but the upgrades we offer are better, both in terms of tactile and aesthetics. We offer knurled knobs that produce better ergonomics and which deliver a better grip, improving manual cycling. If that weren’t reason enough, our bolt knobs make it easier to add a touch of personality to your rifle.
- Muzzle brakes: The Glenfield Model A comes with a threaded barrel, which makes the installation of a muzzle brake a much easier proposition. It just so happens that this is likely the most practical upgrade you can make to your Glenfield just on the grounds of performance. A muzzle brake will reduce recoil and muzzle flip, easing recoil fatigue and making it easier for you to execute faster, more accurate follow-up shots, especially if your Glenfield is chambered in one of those harder-hitting, heavier-recoil cartridges.
- Bolt shrouds: Our bolt shroud upgrades are tougher and exhibit higher quality than the stock bolt shrouds that come with the Glenfield Model A. This is not a “must make” upgrade, but it is a good one either way.
- Firing pin retainer upgrades: Made from heat-treated, corrosion-resistant 17-4 steel, these firing pin retainer upgrades exhibit exceptional durability and reliability, as well as excellent longevity, and reduce the risk of misfires and light primer strikes. This is an especially practical upgrade given the fact that there is a possibility that the factory shroud retainer will fail after 1800 to 2500 rounds.
