7 Compelling Reasons to Upgrade to a WOOX 10/22 Stock
May 9th 2025
There are many reasons that the Ruger 10/22 has been hailed as one of the best autoloading rimfires in history. Some have even called it the single best .22 of all time.
None of the reasons - or at least, very, very few of them - have to do with the stock. Here are some things that make the 10/22 a solid rifle for everything from competition to small game hunting:
- It’s reliable
- It’s affordable
- It’s an autoloader so it offers fast follow up shots, compared to a repeater or a single shot rifle
- It’s accurate
- It’s easy to maintain
- It’s available in numerous variants
- The takedown model is easy to maintain and transport, and can be field stripped
Notice that none of these has to do with the stock. Granted, in the competition variant of the 10/22, the stock is a winner since it is so modular, but still, overall, the stock of your 10/22 can be vastly improved to enhance the gun’s fit to you.
The upgrade you’re looking for is a WOOX 10/22 stock, specifically, the WOOX Superleggera. Here are all the best reasons why this is one of the best upgrades you can make to your favorite rimfire - perhaps to the most popular rimfire rifle of all time.
1. Lower maintenance
WOOX stocks - not just WOOX 10/22 stocks - are made with a combination of high-grade aluminum alloy and wood. Some of their hybrid stocks are made with micarta and aluminum.
In either case, WOOX gun stocks require far less maintenance than all-wood stocks, as they are not prone to wet or dry rot, or even UV degradation. That means you can spend less time maintaining and conditioning the stock and more time focusing on more important affairs.
It also means these high-quality stocks can hang with adverse conditions as well.
2. More consistent, more accurate
Many Ruger 10/22 rifles are outfitted with wooden stocks. Wooden stocks may be beautiful, and they certainly offer a classic aesthetic, but when it comes down to plain performance, wood is lacking.
This is because wood will change in response to atmospheric conditions, being temperature and, more importantly, humidity. Changes in humidity will cause wood to warp or swell, which, as you can imagine, is a serious problem.
When a wood rifle stock swells, it can put pressure on the barrel and change the rifle’s dimensions, altering the point of aim. This can cause inconsistencies in accuracy. Since the 10/22 is often used as a precision competition rifle, wood is a problem here.
If you just use your 10/22 for plinking, no big deal. But if shot placement matters, then an upgrade to a WOOX 10/22 stock, a hybrid model made with aluminum, represents a significant improvement.
3. Higher strength
Wood Ruger 10/22 stocks are strong, but you just can’t compare the strength of most species of wood with the strength of aluminum alloy. For better or worse, a WOOX 10/22 stock is going to be stronger than the stock Ruger sends out from the factory. It also means that WOOX stocks can tolerate more abuse than what you’re likely used to.
4. Better fit to you
One of the best things about the WOOX Superleggera chassis, bar none, is the level of adjustability the stock offers. This is one of the most adjustable rifle stocks on the market, period.
Not only can you adjust length of pull to fit you better, you can also raise or lower the comb height as needed, so you can adjust eye relief and more for a clearer sight picture and more accurate shooting.
Considering the fact that length of pull and comb height are two of the most important adjustments you can make to a rifle for shooter fit and accuracy, the WOOX Superleggera is one of the best stocks on the market - not just for the Ruger 10/22.
5. Expanded versatility through attachment points
Another of the best things that this WOOX 10/22 stock offers is a significant number of attachment points for mounting accessories.
Say you had a wooden 10/22 stock from the factory. Maybe it had stud mounts for a sling, but that’s about it. If you want to add other attachments you’re more or less up a creek.
Not with the WOOX Superleggera. The forend of this WOOX chassis is equipped with M-LOK slots and there’s even a Picatinny rail under the bottom of the forend.
Whether you want to add a light, a side-saddle or a bipod, this WOOX stock is well-equipped for the purpose. One of the greatest things about this WOOX chassis is the versatility it offers you on that front.
6. High-end aesthetics
Nothing against the factory aesthetics of the Ruger 10/22. It, like its cousin the Ruger American Rimfire, is a handsome, even austere rifle, which adds to its character. But there’s something flashy about a WOOX Superleggera that’ll bump up the aesthetics of your 10/22 a notch. It’s the sort of aftermarket stock that it’s hard not to notice. Even if your sole reason for the upgrade is this one, this WOOX stock will make the grade.
7. Easy configuration and installation
Lastly, there are lots of rifle upgrades that require a good deal of mechanical knowledge and firearms savvy to make. This is not really one of them. These stocks are designed for easy configuration and installation and with only basic tools you can re-outfit your 10/22 with one of these WOOX 10/22 stocks, at home, without the need for a trip to the gunsmith. That, paired with better adjustability, expandability and greater consistency is a pretty strong argument in its own right for the upgrade.
