The Gladiatore: About This WOOX Gun Stock

The Remington 870 is without a doubt the most successful shotgun in history. It might not have been the first pump shotgun ever devised, but its easy handling, twin-action bars that delivered a silky-smooth action with no binding, even under duress, and solid-steel receiver that feels bombproof have definitely left a collective mark in the mind of the American shooter.

Over 11 million have been made, and the venerable 870 has found itself at home in the hands of waterfowlers, upland hunters, deer hunters, law enforcement personnel, soldiers, and even conscientious homeowners that need a low-cost, low-maintenance, but exceptionally reliable pump scattergun for defense.

The 870 is, without any further clarification needed, great. One might even call it excellent. But is it perfect? Not exactly.

There are many things you can do to make a Remington 870 a better version of itself, and one of those is to swap the stock and forend. With so many options on the market (it is the most popular shotgun of all time, after all) that decision one is not a particularly easy one to make.

But we’re here to tell you unequivocally that one of the best choices you could make, if a stock and forend upgrade were your aim, is with a WOOX gun stock - specifically, the Gladiatore stock and forend combo.

Here’s why a Gladiatore will elevate your 870.

What This WOOX Gun Stock Offers

First, this WOOX gun stock lacks nothing on aesthetics. It’s made of high-grade American walnut, preserving the classic aesthetics of wooden shotgun stocks. If your 870 came with a synthetic stock, or even a laminate stock, that’s an automatic upgrade right off the bat.

While it may be wood, this WOOX stock boasts a wear and water-resistant finish, which keeps the stock and forend looking slick and sleek, and which resists both moisture absorption and moisture related damage.

The stock and forend are both optimized for handling, and are finished with aggressive checkering that ensures a solid grip, even with wet or sweaty hands - much like the factory original stock. However, the aggressive swells at the front and back of the forend are superior to the factory design as they help prevent the hand from slipping forward or backward on the grip, ensuring smooth, sure cycling even under heavy fire or under periods of intense stress.

Something that most factory 870 stocks lack (though not all of them do) is an attachment point for a sling swivel; this WOOX gun stock is set on that front, with a QD attachment point pre-installed on the stock. In this configuration it’s on the side of the stock, rather than the bottom, which improves ergonomics because it allows the gun to rest flat on the back, rather than at an angle.

The forend of this set is better in other ways, too. Namely, it’s outfitted with a series of M-LOK slots that are perfect for attachments. Factory original 870 friends lack these, which means if you intend to mount a light or laser or some other shooting attachment, significantly modifying the forend or replacing it entirely are effectively your only options. So this WOOX gun stock and forend combo offers a great deal of value in terms of expanding the platform as well.

Now let’s talk about perhaps the most important aspect of all: adjustability, which is one of the most critical indicators of whether or not a shotgun stock and forend upgrade are worth it.

The comb of the Gladiatore stock is fixed - which can easily be adjusted with a comb riser or rifle cheek pad - but the LOP adjustments are easy to make and vital to ensuring a good, custom-like fit. It comes with spacers to make easy LOP adjustments. If you ever felt like your 870 was just a bit short for your taste, this is the right stock upgrade to make.

For what it’s worth, the stock is also outfitted with a microcell pad that upholds a high degree of comfort but also a modicum of recoil reduction, giving the whole outfit a boost in terms of comfort, general ergonomics, and shooter-friendliness.

Both the stock and forend are designed for ambidextrous use, which means it doesn’t matter if you’re a righty or a southpaw - use will come natural to you.

Lastly, one more thing that makes this WOOX stock and forend set great is that it is easy to install. It even comes with the hardware you need, plus a shotgun forend wrench you might need to get the old one off and tighten the new one.

Beyond the 870: Other Platforms with Which This WOOX Gun Stock Is Compatible

One last great thing about this WOOX stock and forend combo is that it is not just compatible with the world’s most popular shotgun. In addition to being compatible with the 870, it’s also compatible with Remington TAC14 12 gauge shotguns.

In addition, the WOOX Gladiatore is also compatible with another one of the world’s most popular shotguns - the Mossberg M88, 500, 590, and 590A1. If you’ve been reading this and thinking, “that’s great, but I have a Mossy Shockwave,” then it’s all good - you can probably upgrade with this WOOX stock and forend combo just the same.

(One note: while the Gladiatore is compatible with 870 shotguns, it is not compatible with .410 gauge tubes, so if you have an 870 in .410, you’ll need a different forend upgrade.)
