WOOX Gun Stock Maintenance
Jul 23rd 2025
WOOX gun stocks, which are hybrid gun stocks, require specific care and maintenance in order to perform optimally. Rendering routine maintenance also protects your investment in your gun - WOOX stocks are not cheap, and taking care of one will ensure that it enjoys a long service lifespan.
With that said, let this be your short overview on how to clean and care for a WOOX stock, from a high level, and without respect to a specific model.
Are WOOX Stocks Real Wood?
WOOX gun stocks are hybrid gun stocks, so they are made with a combination of anodized aluminum and select hardwoods - so yes, they are real wood, they are just not solid wood like some gun stocks.
This ensures that you get the beauty and overall aesthetic of wood without any of its shortcomings, such as the fact that it is imprecise and will swell or warp in response to changes in atmospheric moisture or temperature.
With that said, because WOOX stocks are made with real hardwood, they do require some special care and attention, just like any other gun stock.
WOOX Stock Care and Cleaning
WOOX actually sells cleaning kits specifically for its gun stocks that contain everything needed to take them apart and render a deep clean.
First, ensure that the firearm is unloaded; open the action, drop the mag, and visually and physically inspect the chamber to ensure that the gun is clear.
Then, remove the action, trigger and barrel from the stock. If you have a WOOX cleaning kit, it may come with a stand that will let you set the stock up for easy cleaning once you have partially disassembled the gun.
Their cleaning kits contain custom degreasers that are ideal for removing grease, oil, tar and fouling from their stocks, and the wood and aluminum components will require special attention.
First, dampen a cleaning cloth with the included degreaser and wipe down the wooden components of the stock. Once you’ve cleared all dust, grease and fouling from the stock, use one of the included detailing brushes to remove dust and debris from the crevices of the stock, with special attention to where the aluminum and wood meet.
Then, retreat the cloth with degreaser and turn your attention to the aluminum components of your WOOX gun stock. Wipe these clean of dust and fouling and then wipe them dry. Again, use one of the included detailing brushes to clean out any hard-to-reach areas.
Next, turn your attention to the channel at the top of the stock where the barrel and action are bedded. Dirt, dust, fouling, lint, grease and other debris are liable to accumulate in this channel. Remove it using a cloth and degreaser and then wipe it dry.
Once you’ve cleaned and degreased the stock, you can wipe it down with a clean rag to remove any lingering degreaser or moisture.
An additional note for the aluminum components is that if there are any spots where corrosion has manifested, where it will look like whitish discoloration, buff it out with some fine steel wool and then apply some gun grease or oil to the spot where there was corrosion to help prevent it from recurring.
As for the wooden components of your WOOX stock, the wood is finished so you shouldn’t apply any oils or waxes.
One more note for WOOX stock care is that you should periodically check fasteners after reassembling the rifle and make sure they are set to the manufacturer’s recommendations, as per your owner’s manual. Unfortunately we can’t give general recommendations here because it will vary according to the specific stock you have as well as potentially according to the rifle itself.
Regardless, you should always check the fasteners and tighten them anytime you spend a day in the field, either hunting or at the range. As a general rule you should also check them after a heavy period of fire, as well as any time you start to notice that accuracy starts to degrade.
Reset them to the manufacturer’s recommendations and you’ll be good to go.
Thinking About Getting a WOOX Stock?

Also, if you’re thinking about upgrading your rifle or shotgun with a WOOX gun stock, you’re in the right place. We sell a number of the most popular models, all of which offer considerable advantages and superior ergonomics over their stock predecessors.
Being hybrid gun stocks, they offer superior performance to solid wood gun stocks because they don’t change in response to atmospheric conditions. They also offer superior ergonomics, adjustability, and most of them offer expanded opportunities for attachment points, too.
