If you own a Ruger American, you must have this tool to maintain, repair, and upgrade the bolt. It allows you to replace the bolt handle to models that match your usage. Iugraded a Hunter .308 model to a better bolt handle for Sporting Rifle competition. High quality tool.

As the subject line says, I think Ruger messed things up by not shipping a tool with the rifle in the box. Whether you get one just so you can take the firing pin out for a deep clean or putting an upgraded bolt handle, its worth the 20 bucks.
